Summer Hours at Focus: HOPE

Many Focus: HOPE offices will be closed on Fridays throughout the summer to conserve energy and reduce costs.  The Food Centers and Center for Children will remain open five days a week.

Moving to the 4-day, 36-hour week during the summer are the education programs, manufacturing, admissions office, community development, community arts and administrative offices.

The food centers will remain open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon.

Weatherization Class

Starting July 20

A 10-week weatherization training class will begin at Focus: HOPE on July 20.  The class was developed in concert with Henry Ford Community College and WARM Training Center to meet the growing demand for workers capable of making homes and businesses more energy efficient.  Contact the Focus: HOPE Admissions office at 313.494.4300 for details.

Teen Photo Exhibit

Displayed through July 30

Black and white photographs that illustrate how area teenagers view their community and their lives are displayed in a special exhibit running through July 30 in the Focus: HOPE Gallery.

The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Center for Advanced Technologies, 1400 Oakman Boulevard, Detroit . Secure parking is available in the lot just south of the building.

The photographs provide dramatic views of everyday life and people as well as of historic locations in the city. Photo shoot locations included Bhaktivedanta Cultural Center, Heidelberg Street Art Project, downtown Detroit, Historic Elmwood Cemetery, St. Anne's Church, Mexican Town, St. Pat's Senior Center and Henry Ford Estate.

Photos taken by area high school students will be displayed at the Focus: HOPE Gallery this summer.  Above, Kris Ilich of Farmington High School is looking for a unique perspective on the city.  Below, Benair Covington of Farmington High School and Tyler Ezell of Allen Park High School are dueling over the best shot.

These photos were taken by professional photographer Elliott Attisha who mentored some of the students and documented the program.
