Our education and workforce development programs prepare individuals for success when competing for jobs. We offer a holistic approach to individuals looking to jumpstart their careers. Our programs are scholarship based and FREE to most students. Eligible candidates must pass a drug screen and take an admissions test to determine math and reading levels for entry.

Youth Education

Since starting workforce development programs in 1981, Focus: HOPE has helped over 13,000 talented men and women establish successful careers. The curriculum for our programs have been developed in partnership with area employers to ensure our students develop marketable skills.

Admission Requirements

  • Prospective students must meet with an admissions advisor prior to registration.

Prospective students must:

  • have a high school diploma or GED for all programs, except Earn & Learn
  • pass a drug screen and physical (if applicable)
  • take an admissions test to determine math and reading levels

Enrollment Process

Prospective students will meet with an admissions advisor to discuss job training options, including machinist training, information technology, Earn & Learn, and college degree programs in engineering and information management and systems engineering.

Student Services

Focus: HOPE offer our students a wide range of resources to help them confront life challenges that would otherwise hinder success. Our approach to education means that we work with students to help them manage their personal lives while they prepare for careers.

Wrap Around Services

Our supportive services include but are not limited to: monthly case management, transportation assistance, clothing, vision and dental assistance, Michigan Rehabilitation Services and Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MRS/MDHS).

Financial Literacy

Our Center for Working Families offers one-on-one financial counseling. Counselors help individuals prepare a budget and improve their credit score.

On-Site Social Services

Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS) has two full-time counselors located at the Focus: HOPE campus to assist students with food and medical assistance.  Michigan Rehabilitation Services maintain regular office hours to help students with disabilities. DTE Energy has a permanent office location in the Westside Food Center to help individuals resolve utility concerns.

Legal Assistance

Representatives from Wayne County Friend of the Court, Michigan Legal Help and the Salvation Army’s William Booth Legal Clinic, to offer legal consultations on family law and expungement.

Job Placement Assistance

Placement coordinators assist Focus: HOPE students and alumni secure employment that complements their newly acquired skills. Services include resume writing assistance, employability workshops, mock interviews and job fairs.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Financial Aid assistance is available for those who qualify. Counselors assist students to determine the types of financial aid that may be available and help guide the application process. Following an assessment of a student’s needs, a financial aid package will be developed in accordance with state, federal and school guidelines. Students who demonstrate financial need may qualify for a scholarship.

Professional Clothing

In order to prepare students for the workforce, Focus: HOPE enforces a dress code. Students unable to meet the dress code may be able to find clothing through the Student Clothes Closet. The closet is stocked with donated clothing and contains items from suits and sport coats to dress shirts and shoes.

Veteran Support

GI Benefits Assistance (for students enrolled in ITC); Medical Care referrals
Housing referrals; Counseling; Resources for spouses or family members of Veterans. Referrals to off campus veterans resources; Apprenticeship Priority Enrollment; Private scholarships (when available)
