Support Focus: HOPE Programs
Education
and Training
Our fight against racism begins with opening opportunities to underrepresented minorities. We have made significant strides – breaking the race and gender barriers in the machinist trades and enrolling more African Americans in our engineering program than any similar program in the country. While government funding once provided up to 80 percent of the tuition, it now covers only about 10 percent. Donations are crucial to keeping these programs going.
Food
Program
Each month, we distribute nutritionally-balanced food to 43,000 mothers, children under the age of six, and senior citizens. More than 10,000 senior citizens do not have transportation and depend upon us to deliver food to their homes. Your support will aid in the distribution effort and in keeping our food centers in good repair.
Center
for Children
The first six years are the most important in a child’s life. At Focus: HOPE’s Center for Children, special attention is placed on a child’s early learning experiences. Your donations ensure that children get off to a good start in their education and that they spend their summers in constructive, creative pursuits.
Community
Arts Program
Each year, we match third graders through our Pen Pal Program and high school students through Focus on the Mission. Both build understanding and respect of different races and cultures. In addition, we have ongoing art exhibits at the Focus: HOPE Gallery. You can impact the racial attitudes of hundreds of children by supporting these programs.
Community
and Economic Development
Our community revitalization efforts range from cutting down weeds and boarding up houses to facilitating new developments like senior citizen housing now under construction near our campus. Your support goes directly toward improving our community and rebuilding neighborhoods to attract families and businesses.
