Early Head Start: Quality education for children in 48238 zip code

 

Early Head Start is a federally-funded, community-based program for low income pregnant women and families with infants and toddlers. It provides early, continuous, intensive and comprehensive child development and family support services to low income infants and toddlers and their families.  

The Early Head Start Center program located at the Center for Children offers full day, full year services using a HighScope curriculum which  emphasizes hands-on learning, opportunities for creative expression, and development of basic math and reading skills.

Partnerships

Thrive By Five provides exceptional Head Start services for Detroit's children from birth to five. Focus: HOPE works in partnership with Starfish Family Services, Southwest Solutions and Development Centers to prepare children for kindergarten and create a foundation for family success.   


eligibility requirements

  • Child must be 6 weeks to 3 years old
  • Families must meet the federal poverty guideline. Find current standard, here
  • Families must live in the 48238 or 48206 zip code

Those qualified include low-income families, foster children or families who receive SSI or DHS cast grants, and/or DHS child care reimbursement. 

Hours

8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, year round except for holidays.

Cost

There is no cost to qualified families.  
Students are provided breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack at no additional cost.
