Carol Spann is a dual certified Human Resources Professional with 30 years of experience in both the corporate and non-profit sectors. Ms. Spann holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in Human Resources Administration, from Eastern Michigan University. She maintains both the SPHR and SHRM-SCP certifications.
Ms. Spann’s employment background includes exposure to the academic field (EMU/WCC), telecommunications, marketing, insurance, healthcare and Fortune 500 employers. Ms. Spann has worked for two (2) FORTUNE Magazine “Top 100 Employers” (Edward Jones/Valassis), and has been a member of the Executive Leadership Council (All VP and Above African Americans professionals in the Fortune 500). Her tenure in the corporate sector includes organizations such as at&t, Blue Care Network, Edward Jones, EW Scripps, and Westin Hotels & Resorts.
Her background includes extensive exposure to Merger and Acquisition activity, due diligence and integration processes. In addition, she has had strong experience initiating Cultural Change and integration of the principles of Diversity and Inclusion as a former SVP of Culture and Diversity. Ms. Spann transitioned to the non-profit environment and was previously on the Board of Directors for Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation. She is currently on the Board of WYDER which focuses on creating economic development opportunities for youth and women. She is personally committed to anti-racism efforts, as well as those which raise families out of poverty through education – and very proud to be working for Focus: HOPE. Ms. Spann began working with the organization in August of 2018 and is currently responsible for the strategic direction of the Human Resources Division.
