In partnership with DTE, Focus: HOPE offers a seven-week tree trimming program. The program is designed to provide specific training at different intervals with each of the partnering organizations. The Focus: HOPE team is responsible for recruitment, selection, work readiness training, supportive services, and overall coordination of the tree trim program.  To learn more click here: DTE Tree Trim Academy.

Week One

Students are immersed into the Focus: HOPE 5A’s (attendance, attitude, academics, appearance, and accountability), working with diverse populations, customer service, conflict resolution, financial literacy, and computer enhancement. 

Week Two, Three, Four

Truck Driving School:

Students are trained for Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP). This permit is required for students to drive a truck with a licensed truck driver/trainer. 

Students are prepared and tested for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL -B). Includes testing by a state examiner.

Weeks Five, Six, Seven

Training includes, physical fitness, personal protective equipment, tying knots, climbing, introduction to tree trimming. 

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

This 20-week hybrid training program was designed to prepare trainees for careers as certified medical assistants. In partnership with Detroit At Work, Skilltrade and Focus: HOPE, the program includes biweekly LIVE labs, supportive services, externship opportunities, preparation for national certification exams and job placement assistance. This training will address the critical demand for trained medical professionals.

This 15-week training pathway prepares students for entry-level to middle-skilled Information Technology positions. Training focuses on Customer Service, Financial Literacy, Technical Support, and Programming Essentials in Python.

This 300 hours course is designed to provide technical skills necessary to become a CompTIA A+ certified IT professional. Beginning with an introduction to computer basics, this course will take students through the more complex issues involved in configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting software, operating systems, workstations, laptops, and mobile devices. An introduction to networks and security is included in the training as well as practical real-world type projects to strengthen the soft skills and customer service skills required to work in the IT field. Financial Literacy training is also included in this module. Students are prepared for industry certifications including the CompTIA A+, Certified Business Professional: Customer Service, PCEP: Python Certified Entry-Level Programmer

This 150-hour, Cisco Networking Academy course, covers all the basics of programming in Python, as well as general computer programming concepts and techniques. Additionally, the course familiarizes the student with the object-oriented approach providing a pragmatic and hands-on introduction to the Python programming language, with a focus on practical applications and projects, rather than theoretical topics. Students will design and build software to solve problems from various disciplines each week using Python. As the course progresses, students will learn to work with packages, data structures, object-oriented programming, and tools for data science and cybersecurity. This course prepares student for an industry recognized programming certification. Students are prepared for industry certifications the PCEP: Python Certified Entry-Level Programmer. The career placement focus areas for this module include Junior Python Developer, Software Developer. Entry-level wages begin at $18-$20.

This Information Technology Pathway-Plus 15-week program and Cisco Networking Academy course will earn candidates a professional, high-stakes credential that measures the candidate’s ability to perform intermediate-level coding tasks in the Python language, including the ability to design, develop, debug, execute, and refactor multi-module Python programs. This training provides training for the following job: Entry-level Junior Software Developer, Software Developers, Data Analysts, and Web Development.
