DTE TREE Trim Academy
In partnership with DTE, Focus: HOPE offers a seven-week tree trimming program. The program is designed to provide specific training at different intervals with each of the partnering organizations.

Week One and Two:
Work Readiness at Focus: HOPE:
Students are immersed into the Focus: HOPE 5A’s (attendance, attitude, academics, appearance and accountability), daily affirmation statements, enrichment/introduction to remote learning, computer literacy, resume preparation, interview skills, financial literacy, team building and preparation and certification for the Certified Business Professional – Customer Service. In addition, students review the Secretary of State handbook preparation for the TIP (Temporary Instructional Permit) exam.
Weeks Three and Four:
On-site at DTE’s Detroit Tree Trimming Academy:
Students learn safety protocols, fitness, the proper tying of knots, how to climb properly and the identification of trees.
Weeks Five through Seven:
Truck Driver Training School:
Students are prepared and tested for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL -B).The Focus: HOPE team is responsible for the recruitment, selection, work readiness training, supportive services, and overall coordination of the program.
